Santa Barbara Living

There are a number of basic elements to the historic Santa Barbara style architecture and furnishings - round arches, wrought iron work, talavera tile, dark woods in beams, floors (terra cotta tiles were also a favorite for floors) and furniture. Very popular were fountains, galleries surrounding a courtyard, red tile roofs, turrets and balconies.  I tried to incorporate the main historic features in my design, making it more a historic vs. modern version, which builders nowadays use. The tile is a significant part of the Moorish/Spanish heritage, due to the Moors conquering Spain and Portugal in 711 which they occupied for 800 years, until Ferdinand and Isabella  managed to  chase them out of their country.
