I am happy that this contest is set in a country in which brilliant colors are a strong component of its culture. I believe that the ethnicity in a design, especially when a country's people have such a distinct heritage, should be brought to the fore when the contest specifies the location to be in a highly ethnic country and culture. Brazil is the home of the descendants of native South Americans and Portuguese immigrants, with a culture similar to Mexico, Spain, and Portugal. In addition, when I wrote the lead articles for the home section of a magazine in the Southwest of the US and had the opportunity to interview many top designers in that region, I found out that all of them emphasized again and again the use of color in one's home, so this contest offers a marvelous opportunity to include a kaleidoscope of colors. Although you may not want to live with that much color in your home, remember, the contest is inspired by Million Dollar Decorating's James Swan, so I assume one can go all out in the design of a Brazilian beach home. Hope you enjoy it!
